Sakura Cup Tournament Rules
2019 Ineligibility Rules
4.0 and below
A) Players who have won any tournament organized by Tennis BC (including non-ranking events) in the 4.0 level or above in any doubles category (including mixed doubles) twice or more in the past 2 years starting from the 2018 38th Annual New Year's Classic Tournament (Victoria, BC).
B) Players who have won the first round in ANY 4.5 or higher category* in any tournament organized by Tennis BC (including non-ranking events) in the past 2 years starting from the 2018 38th Annual New Year's Classic Tournament (Victoria, BC).**
*Categories include Men's & women's singles, men's & women's doubles and mixed doubles
**Except the first-round walkover
**In case of round-robin, this includes players who have won one or more matches in a round-robin of any 4.5 categories
※Match results up to and including the 2020 Stanley Park Open will be considered.
C) When the tournament committee decides that the player belongs in the 4.5 level or above.
4.5 and below
A) Players who have won the first round in ANY Open category* in any tournament organized by Tennis BC (including non-ranking events) in the past 2 years starting from the 2018 38th Annual New Year's Classic Tournament (Victoria, BC).**
*Categories include Men's & women's singles, men's & women's doubles and mixed doubles
**Except the first-round walkover
**In case of round-robin, this includes players who have won one or more matches in a round-robin of any open categories
※Match results up to and including the 2020 Stanley Park Open will be considered.
B) When the tournament committee decides that the player belongs in the Open level.
Tournament Cost and Format
Entry deadline: July 31, 2020
Final rosters must be submitted by this date and no additions or changes can be made to the list of players.
Entry fee: $200/team
A maximum of 8 teams will be accepted in the 4.5 and below category. A maximum of 12 teams will be accepted in the 4.0 and below category.
Each team will play all the other teams in a round robin format. All teams are guaranteed a minimum of 3 matches. Depending on the number of entries, a final elimination round may also be implemented to determine the winner and runner-up.
Each team vs team match will have the following individual matches:
- 1 Mens Doubles
- 1 Womens Doubles
- 1 Mixed Doubles
Notes:
- # of mixed double has been changed from 2 to 1.
- Each team must have a minimum of 3 men and 3 women. The maximum number of total players on one team is limited to 8.
- No player may play in more than 1 match against each team. For example, if you play Mens Doubles, you can not play Mixed Doubles.
Number of team entries for 4.0 & 4.5
4.0: A maximum of 12 teams will be accepted and may play on up to 6 courts simultaneously.
4.5: A maximum of 8 teams will be accepted and may play on up to 4 courts simultaneously.
Entry fee: $200/team
- Payment may be made by cash, check or eTransfer.
- Registration will not be confirmed until payment is made.
- Payment must be made by the entry deadline. On site payments will not be accepted.
Match Format
The round robin setup and match format is dependent on the number of entries. Further details will be posted closer to the tournament date.
Tournament Regulations
The following regulations apply to all categories:
- Official ball: Penn Marathon.
- Team captain must check-in and submit their roster 30 minutes before each match.
- Once a roster has been submitted to the tournament desk, no changes are allowed.
- All teams must be available to play between 8am and 6pm on each date for that category.
- Winning team must report the score after each match and must bring the balls back.
- A maximum of 5 minutes warm-up will be enforced.
- Lateness penalty: 1 game for every 5 minutes.
- Default after 15 minutes, may be enforced. (Score : 0-6)
- No coaching and advice by team members during match, but 1 team member is allowed to be at the bench beside the court and can coach or advise during changeovers.
- This is a weather dependent tournament. Match times may be postponed or delayed and matches may be played on different court surfaces, under lights, or at alternate sites.
